If you think you just caught a whiff of some great barbeque, Steve Heller must be somewhere around. Thankfully, Steve’s role as a certified BBQ judge who also competes with his team, "Smoking in the Boys Room," is only a pastime, and P&L still gets the benefits of his expertise on a daily basis. Steve started working for P&L Capital after graduating from Creighton University with a degree in Finance. With the creation of P&L Technology in 2004, Steve recognized a great opportunity, and was able to transition over at the company’s formation.
All BBQ cooking aside (and fishing, too), Steve finds great reward in helping businesses and organizations grow their businesses through effective use of their technology. And, he thinks that one of the greatest compliments he can receive is when a customer says they couldn’t live without P&L’s service, and that it has made a positive impact on their business.
What did you think you were going to be when you grew up?
Until I was 14, I was hoping for a MLB career. Later, I thought I’d probably end up doing something in the stock market on the analysis side.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a shoe shiner at a local country club. It was definitely a lesson in humility.
What movie character do you most identify with and why?
I have always identified with Boxer the horse from Animal Farm. His perception of working harder to overcome obstacles is a philosophy I tend to share. Loyalty is another trait of his that I identify with, too. Of course, Bud Davis from Urban Cowboy is another character I identify with -- we share a love of country music, Lone Star beer, and mechanical bulls.
Why do you stay at P&L Technology?
The culture of the company, the opportunity to succeed and the relationships I’ve been able to develop with local businesses.
